The Industrial Engineer is responsible for applying engineering principles and analytical techniques to establish and improve manufacturing processes. Functions performed include determining the machines, equipment, tools, and the sequence of operations necessary to perform production and assembly operations. The position will lead the effort to understand and create lean processes by analyzing work balance and creating standard work. Analyze opportunities to combine work into cells and lead implementation. Provide leadership to frontline supervision for lean implementation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilizes time studies to understand and improve work balance.
  • Analyze opportunities to reduce/eliminate the waste of overproduction, waiting, conveyance, over-processing, inventory, unnecessary motion, defects, and unused team member cycle time (using VSM).
  • Educates team members operators on the importance of eliminating the wastes denoted above.
  • Drives productivity improvements.
  • Adhere to EH&S policy endorsed by the local management, comply with the legal and other requirements and operational controls established under its EHS Management System (EHSMS), work toward achieving established objectives and targets, and conform to procedures consistent with ISO and OHSAS standards. An employee should report and, if necessary, stop any activity that does not conform to the policy or may injure himself/herself.
  • Understands how his/her role affects customer satisfaction and product safety.
  • Coordinate and process prototypes, new item introduction and changes with associate documentation
  • Provide technical support to floor
  • Create, set up, and maintain process parameters
  • Responsible for timely research, completion, and submission of capital proposals for projects
  • Coordinate project work such as equipment receipt and installation with vendors, manufacturing engineers, maintenance and production; including testing, run-offs and capability studies.
  • Provide management with engineering drawings of new and proposed projects, plan layouts, and equipment modifications
  • Create Statement of Work for project and solicit the necessary quotes from, vendors for budgeted equipment
  • Generate cost data related to project activities
  • Oversee the documentation of project activities
  • Research and implement process technologies in manufacturing equipment
  • Assist Development Group to implement needed equipment to improve friction products implements in the facility
  • Oversee the documentation of project activities including but not limited to equipment capability studies
  • Upon implementation, provide required support to production personnel for system acceptance
  • Program using C-programming language
  • Evaluate equipment, tooling and process problems and failure. Implement corrective actions and follow up. Miscellaneous projects including but not limited to: cost reduction, scrap reduction, process improvement.
  • Lead cross functional teams to plan, coordinate and expedite assigned projects from concepts to closure
  • Promotes basics and drives implementation of 5's.
  • Acts as a change agent for the value stream.
  • Follows the Quality Management System requirements as outlined in the applicable QMS documents; and suggests ways for continual improvement.
  • Follows EHS rules and regulations and suggests ways for continual improvement.
  • Promptly reports quality problems, personal injuries and unsafe conditions.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned and required

    Education: Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or related engineering field.

    Skills & Experience:
    • Minimum 1-3 years of operations experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • AutoCAD experience required
    • Previous exposure to Lean Manufacturing environment. A plus if have experience in the application and implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles.
    • Knowledge of the principles of ergonomics, constraint management and visual pull.
    • Creative and innovative thinking.
    • Knowledge of products produced in the value stream and costs related to the value stream processes.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Analytical abilities necessary to plan and prioritize own work, complete work on schedule and maintain required records and logs.
    • Interpersonal skills necessary to exchange information with variety of employees and vendors.
    • Analytical trouble shooting and problem solving (root cause analysis, FM Tips, etc.).
    • Understands paperwork used to control production process like bills of material, routings, etc.
    • Ability to respond to and meet critical timetables and to work under pressure
    • Flexible approach to responsibilities.
    • A flexible self-motivated team player who is methodical with good attention to detail and good planning and organizational skills
