Summary and QualificationsThe Med/Surg Director ensures high
quality, patient-centered care through oversight of the overall
function and staffing of the unit(s)/department(s) in addition to
forecasting, planning, and budget monitoring. The Director fosters
a culture of accountability and collaboration and supports the
development and implementation of strategies, policies, and
procedures in support of facility objectives. What you will do in
this role:
- Maintain responsibility for the overall direction of the
Medical/Surgical Floor.
- Cultivate a superior clinical identity by identifying and
implementing evidence-based practices to advance patient safety and
quality outcomes, ensuring adherence to standards of care.
- Ensure that Nursing Care is based on the Nursing Process and
evaluate the effectiveness on an ongoing basis.
- Implement Emergency Management Plan and Patient Safety
Initiatives.
- Coordinate the department's participation in activities to
assure continuous performance improvement.
- Manage variation in clinical practice to improve efficiency,
effectiveness, and cost, while ensuring a culture of accountability
and transparency in the provision of care.
- Stay abreast of legal and regulatory standards and ensures
compliance through developing and implementing policies,
procedures, and practices.
- Ensure efficient patient throughput and delivery of high
quality, patient-centered care through volume forecasting, patient
flow coordination, and admission/discharge planning.
- Provide leadership in attaining and sustaining an unparalleled
patient experience, by instilling accountability for providing
consistent, positive patient interactions that differentiate the
organization as a healthcare leader.
- Leverage various feedback mechanisms to benchmark performance
and identify opportunities to improve customer/patient satisfaction
in an effort to elevate the patient experience.
- Foster a culture that inspires commitment to the
vision/mission/values of the organization, ensuring employees are
recognized, valued, and supported.
- Identify development opportunities or training needs of
individual employees and teams and provide any needed coaching,
feedback, or training to improve performance.
- Collaborate with administrative team and physicians to enhance
existing services or develop new service offerings.
- Identify stakeholder engagement strategies, technology
advances, and other opportunities to drive differentiation and
increase volume.
- Participate in the annual budget process, including input into
department revenue and expense forecasts, staffing, and supply and
equipment needs.
- Ensure effective labor management, including position control,
scheduling excellence, productivity management, and premium pay
utilization to maintain staffing to ensure appropriate patient
care.
- Manage operating expenses, including the utilization of
supplies and equipment. Identify cost reduction opportunities and
implement actions to achieve savings.What qualifications you will
need:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Professional Nursing
required.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of
Kentucky or compact state required.
- 2 years of Medical/Surgical experience required.
- Management experience strongly preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
