SUMMARY Plans, implements, and evaluates care of those patients
undergoing endoscopic procedures in a timely and accurate manner.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS Formal Education / Training: 1. Earned a
nursing diploma or degree from a college or university. 2. Licensed
in the state of Tennessee. 3. Must respond to hospital within
thirty minutes for "on call" requirements. 4. One year experience
in medical/surgical nursing. 5. BLS within 90 days of hire. 6. ACLS
within 6 months of hire. Workplace Experience: Peri operative Care
Equipment and Skills Training: Standard patient care equipment for
services provided. The ability to work well under pressure, to
function dependently and independently and to be flexible in
applying basic nursing knowledge to a variety of setting. General
equipment to area and Network computer system, Pneumatic Tube
System, Omnicell Medication System, Meditech Order Entry Computer
System; AT&T Language Line, Endoscopy sterile processing
equipment. Physical Environment: An Endoscopy Unit with patient
population ranging from adolescence to age> ninety-nine plus
years of age. Physical Effort: 1. Able to communicate in English
verbally and legibly. 2. Able to stand/work for up to twelve hours
a day. 3. Able to lift and turn patients with assistance up to 250
lbs. 4. Able to transport patient on stretcher or bed as necessary.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS 1. Performs a comprehensive assessment on all
patients within the appropriate time of admission utilizing skills
of observation, communication and examination. 2. Plans the
patient's care on an individual basis, identifying problems/needs,
nursing diagnosis, standards of care/practice, interventions
consistent with identified problems and attainable outcomes. 3.
Collaborates with appropriate team members to effectively
coordinate the delivery of patient care in a timely manner. 4.
Plans for and provides education, emotional and psychosocial
support for patient and family. 5. Functions independently with
treatments, procedures and equipment appropriate to areas evidence
by adherence to policy, procedure and competency based assessment
and no pattern or trend of problem. 6. Handles/ transports/ stores/
prepares/ administers medications/ solutions safely and in
accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
7. Documents accurately and timely. 8. Reassess patient's
condition, evaluate patient response and modify plan of care
accordingly and in a timely manner. 9. Maintains healing and
therapeutic environment for the patient and family. 10. Maintains
position specific qualifications. 11. Facilitates staff development
and trains new employees. 12. Demonstrates responsibility for
assigned communications and special assignments. 13. Floats to
other surgical service areas as necessary to staff.
