Job Title: Senior Formulation Chemist
The Senior Formulation Scientist is responsible for developing
pharmaceutical and cosmetic dosage forms in the skin, hair and oral
care market segments. Works as hands on formulator as well as acts
a go to formulations "expert" for personal care by providing
guidance and professional development to the formulations team.
This position will be responsible for new formula development,
optimization/reformulation of existing products and subsequent
scale-up in a multi-disciplinary team setting. This position works
primarily with Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, and Product
Development Personnel. This position requires a candidate that
works with general direction, broad policies and goals; requires
---Formulates, prepares laboratory batches and assist with scale-up
of assigned product formulations.
---Maintain a legible and accurate record of all pertinent data and
testing in the laboratory notebook including a detailed
manufacturing procedure. Follows procedures accurately; notes any
critical observations during laboratory experiments.
---Develops product specifications by evaluating physical/chemical
properties of raw materials and formulations (viscosity, specific
gravity, microscopic examination, pH, etc.)
---Conduct physical stability testing (at controlled temperatures)
necessary to evaluate robustness of candidate formulae.
---Sources and obtains all appropriate raw material samples for the
development of new or reformulation products.
---Resolves processing problems in a multi-disciplinary team
---Evaluates patents and drafts patent applications for unique
formulation or ingredient application.
---Provides technical assistance related to product formula to
support departments as required (i.e. ATF, VOC data, consumer
---Creates, reviews and approves technical documents to support
developmental projects. (i.e. Ingredient Statements, Manufacturing
Formula Cards, Cost Formulae, etc)
---Evaluates new processing methods, equipment and materials in a
multi-disciplinary team setting.
---Keeps informed on industry trends, equipment, facilities,
materials and procedures used for the manufacture of pharmaceutical
and cosmetic dosage forms.
---Assist in establishing meaningful specifications for raw
materials and finished dosage forms.
---Prepare clear and concise status and summary reports on

Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Chemical
Engineering or a related biological Science required.
Experience: Must have 8 years of experience personal care and or
pharmaceutical laboratory product formulations in a company. Must
have expert knowledge of a laboratory and cGMP practices as well as
expert knowledge of personal care chemicals. Ability to use
Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Demands / Visual Acuity: Walking, talking, hearing,
balancing, reaching, grasping, standing, and stooping and excellent
communication skills. Job sedentary in nature, however, employee is
required to exert force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise
move objects. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Lifting can be
performed by/with other workers. Clarity of vision at 20 inches or
less, with the ability to distinguish colors and adjust eye to
bring objects into sharper focus. Prolonged mental attention and
color vision being critical.
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions: Exposure to normal lab
environment, including some hazardous chemicals. Will be exposed to
ambient noise level in a manufacturing environment.
